We open up the sarcophagus

Preparations for the launch of the NICA collider are in full swing. The MPD Collaboration has proceeded to a very crucial moment in the assembly of the detector – work with a superconducting solenoid made by the ASG company in Italy. Last November the solenoid was delivered by sea to Russia and by river to Dubna. The metal sarcophagus protected the valuable cargo all along its long journey.

And now, physicists got to the magnet and began to open the sarcophagus. First impressions of N. Topilin after removing the end sections of the sarcophagus: “The packing film inside is in perfect condition!”

Let’s knock on wood!
